Make your own Favicon

  • The favicon.ico file is a small graphic icon (16 x 16 or 32 x 32 - 256 colors) that is used by some browsers (including Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox) to enhance the display of address bar information and favorites bookmark lists
  • When requesting a resource, these browsers also try to locate the site's custom favicon.ico file
  • There is a difference, however, in the way Internet Explorer and Firefox decide when to request the favicon.ico file. Internet Explorer requests favicon.ico only when the returned page is bookmarked. Firefox requests favicon.ico at the same time as the request for the page
  • With Google Page Creator, never use the name favicon.ico
  • IE support only *.ico file, while you can use *.png, *.gif or even *.mpg with FF
  • Create *.ico and *.png files with this tool : FavIcon from Pics
  • Activate auto discovery to tell IE (first link) and FF (second link) you have your own favicon
